Background
UK’s leading provider of electrical solutions for rail infrastructure, specializing in Overhead Catenary System (OCS) and High Voltage Traction and Non-Traction Power Supply (HV). SPL Powerlines UK supports businesses, tier one contractors, communities and the public sector by delivering sustainable transportation, infrastructure and energy solutions across the UK.
Challenge
A recent land remediation project at the Winfrith site required a mobile off-grid power source in order to operate an excavator bucket monitoring system and a high resolution gamma spectrometer with a turntable for gamma assay of builder’s bags, required to process 21,189 ft3 of soil. The contractor’s equipment required constant power to maintain suitable operating temperatures of the equipment.

SPL Powerlines UK has a small fleet of their own welfare cabins and rehires from others as needed. Having their own fleet of solar hybrid generators allows them to tow to site and set up their compounds quickly, as well as save significantly on fuel use and carbon emissions. Not to mention having complete remote access to managing their generator fleet through our Smart Remote Autonomous software.

Customers are seeing savings of up to £6.5k per month per unit on fuel alone. We can map their load profile and turn things on and off remotely for the customer so it’s all running as optimally as possible. It’s very efficient compared to the traditional diesel generators used for these functions. Also, compared to the old tech, there’s a lot less servicing required because the generator runs less frequently.
