Milestone Infrastructure are responsible for providing maintenance services for highway infrastructure around Hinkley Point C nuclear power station, the biggest building site for a power station in Europe, based in Somerset.
Hinkley Point C (HPC) will make a major contribution to the UK’s move to reduce carbon emissions and will deliver low-carbon electricity to around 6 million homes.
The station will offset 9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year, or 600 million tonnes over its 60-year lifespan.
Milestone Infrastructure Limited and HPC faced several challenges in the implementation of solar lighting solutions:
Prolectric provided tailored solutions to address HPC’s challenges:
The ProLight delivers powerful light without noise or emissions and zero-fuel, no-emissions smart solar alternatives to diesel-powered products, accelerating customers away from fossil fuels.
Our intelligent products are designed to interpret advanced telematics, historic weather data and GPS location data. They then autonomously adapt based on their remaining battery power, to ensure optimum performance, meaning the lights work all night.
Prolectric offered unparalleled support from point of sale to ongoing product assistance, creating a collaborative and trusting relationship.
Prolectric’s solar power solutions were acknowledged for their positive impact on reducing carbon footprints across various site locations. This alignment with sustainable practices enhanced the environmental credentials of Milestones operations.
Throughout the winter EDF and Milestone deployed Prolectric products throughout the site, featuring 58 solar-powered lighting towers. The integration of these solar lighting towers has notably contributed to the reduction of carbon emissions and diesel consumption, leading to substantial cost savings.
Our smart, clean, cost-effective, and user-friendly technology has presented compelling evidence of carbon savings. Collaborations with Tier 1 contractors showcase the considerable potential to make significant contributions towards meeting carbon reduction targets in the construction industry.
Over the last 4 years of this ongoing project they have saved a staggering amount.

We have approximately 50 Prolectric Solar Tower Lighting Units in use. We have a high level of confidence in both Prolectric as a business and the products they produce as well as the after sales service and support they provide. As an Approved Vendor, the growing number of units across the business has had the added benefit of removing a large amount of Diesel powered equivalents from the site. I would recommend Prolectric as I have found them to be both amenable and professional to deal with and look forward to doing further business with them in the future.
Richard ThompsonHaving purchased Prolectric’s ProLight’s over the last few years, we couldn’t argue with their expertise and quality of products. Trialling the ProPower, the savings spoke for themselves. Adding the Prolectric solar hybrid generators to our plant fleet will see us make big steps towards our goal of net zero by 2050. The remote access to the power portal allows us to monitor the performance and run carbon and cost savings reports so we can show our clients the impact of these solar hybrid generators.
Stacey GillespieA 97% diesel reduction at the first attempt is a great achievement. Saving close to 6,000 litres of diesel is the same as driving a family car at 40 mpg twice around the circumference of the world. It’s also clear where we have learnt the lessons from Llanwern so we can aim to close that small gap. We really want to get to that 100% fuel-free figure by the time of our next challenge, planned for a rail renewal project later in the summer. There’s no doubt these technologies are going to be a complete game-changer and we need to push on to get to a place where using this type of technology is just business as usual.
