North Somerset Council
Background
North Somerset Council underwent extensive car park improvements at its Castlewood headquarters in Clevedon. Part of the contract required the provision and installation of car park lighting to provide a safe and secure environment for the council office workers.
Challenge
The Castlewood car park installation is the first installation for North Somerset Council and Steve Hodges, M&E and Energy Manager at the council commented, ‘We were first made aware of the technology by Prolectric back in early 2014, which was about the time we were looking at the car parking challenges we had at the site.
The Solution
After researching the technology in more detail, we decided to install Prolectric’s solar lighting. The installation was completed in early November and I am pleased to say that the technology has performed very well through the harsh winter months’.
Steve also added ‘As well as installation savings our running costs are zero, making it a very cost effective solution from both a capital and revenue perspective’. Prolectric’s Managing Director commented, ‘We are really pleased to support North Somerset in reducing the costs of the installation by some 50% when compared to a conventional mains powered lighting solution.
Significant savings, are made because installing our solar lights reduces the need to excavate many metres of trenches to lay power cables. Prolectric now has thousands of these lights up and down the country, operating in streets, car parks and footpaths.Providing an energy efficient solution at the same time as reducing installation costs considerably’.
