What is your current role, and what are your main responsibilities?
As a Business Development Manager, my main responsibilities are New Business Development and Account Management, ultimately driving sales through strong relationships.
What inspired you to pursue this field, and how did you get started?
Pure fascination and curiosity. The sheer scale of opportunity with off-grid energy technology, and its positive impact on our global environment. Prolectric, for me, ticked all the boxes to pursue my passion for innovation and change whilst nurturing and building strong relationships with like-minded businesses.
What do you consider to be the biggest challenge facing your industry today?
Lack of knowledge and understanding of how powerful and effective solar can be when used with the right technology.
Can you share an example of a successful project you worked on, and what made it successful?
Working with a global clean energy company, supporting them on bringing all their CCTV surveillance in-house. A huge project with a great operational impact taking a lot of collaboration back and forth, to get a final product solution. It has been incredibly rewarding and the main reason itβs been so successful is ultimately down to our values, our vision and mission aligning seamlessly.
How do you see the industry evolving in the next 5-10 years, and what trends do you think will drive this evolution?
A universal push for a sustainable future will drive harder, resulting in businesses being forced to change their outlook and infrastructure. This in return will have huge financial and environmental benefits which will further drive the industry forward.
As a whole, there will be a huge trend in businesses using off-grid equipment and technology with a strong focus to move further towards their sustainability goals.
How do you think technology is impacting the industry, and what opportunities and challenges does this present?
Like most sectors, technology is constantly evolving and at a rapid rate. So while on the positive side this helps growth and expansion, it also creates a challenge to keep up with the pace.
How do you balance competing priorities and demands within the industry, such as innovation versus risk management?
One thing I thoroughly enjoy with my role and this company is the collaboration between departments. Often when there is an opportunity for a bespoke product for a customer, we roundtable the concept and weigh up the risks vs reward. We have to be logical, practical but also give ourselves the chance to grow and develop as a business. As long as the opportunity sits within our growth plans and stratify, we are courageous enough to go for it.
It’s always good to have a balance of customers and projects that require the minimal input and strategy and those that require a more hands on bespoke approach.
What are some common misconceptions about your industry or field you can dispel?
The main one for me is the power of the solar and its ability to work through the winter months – you often hear the 3 below statements – whereby we have proven otherwise.
- ππ²ππ‘ 1: ππ°ππ’π³ ππͺπ¨π©π΅π΄ ππ°π―βπ΅ ππ°π³π¬ πͺπ― πππ°πΆπ₯πΊ ππ¦π’π΅π©π¦π³ – Contrary to popular belief, solar lights donβt require direct sunlight to generate electricity. They can still produce power on cloudy days.
- ππ²ππ‘ 2: ππ°ππ’π³ ππͺπ¨π©π΅π΄ aπ³π¦ ππ―π¦π§π§π¦π€π΅πͺπ·π¦ ππΆπ³πͺπ―π¨ ππ©π°π³π΅ ππͺπ―π΅π¦π³ ππ’πΊπ΄ – While it’s true that winter days are shorter, modern solar lights are designed to capture maximum energy within limited daylight hours.
- ππ²ππ‘ 3: ππ°ππ’π³ ππͺπ¨π©π΅π΄ ππ’π―βπ΅ ππ’π―π₯ππ¦ ππ―π°πΈ – Snow can actually help clean solar panels by removing dirt and debris as it slides off. Moreover, our lights are designed to operate at optimal temperatures, which often improves efficiency since solar lights work better in cooler conditions.
