What is your current role, and what are your main responsibilities?

I’m a Business Development Manager, primarily specialising in permanent & temporary solar lighting.  I work closely with my customers to help them make informed decisions on sustainable off grid lighting solutions on their sites.

What inspired you to pursue this field, and how did you get started?

I started working with Prolectric at the end of 2022 – previously I worked in sales, and I wanted to develop these skills alongside a company that is passionate about sustainability.

Can you share an example of a successful project you worked on, and what made it successful?

I have recently worked with shipbuilders/repairers, I reached out to them back in the summer to discuss some of their projects. They had been tasked with building a mooring dolphin (a floating structure to assist boats with mooring) and needed some off grid lighting. Being 100% solar, our AE6 solar street lights were perfect to illuminate the area, keeping the staff and workspace safe and well lit.

How do you see the industry evolving in the next 5-10 years, and what trends do you think will drive this evolution?

I speak regularly with national housebuilders, and I can see solar street lights becoming the norm. It’s a no brainer really – the lights are sustainable and remove the initial cost and time of digging and trenching and eliminates ongoing cost.

How do you think technology is impacting the industry, and what opportunities and challenges does this present?

Solar technology is becoming a lot more widespread and well known – which is great! However, with a range of different lights flooding the market, it can be difficult to know which ones to choose. The most important part of my role in the sustainability sector is understanding individual project requirements and helping our customers to achieve their goals.

What are some common misconceptions about your industry or field you can dispel?

Solar works! The most common misconception we get is that solar doesn’t work properly or is unreliable due to the British weather. This is incorrect, our products are tried, tested and designed to work all year in the UK, provided they are the correct fit for your site and installed correctly.
